dr. reckefuss it has become difficult to be a true guitar heretic. this recorded performance is rare, true, hardcore and as a result sort of nerve extracting (radical...root...teeth...you get the metaphors...) essence.

about

By extending the guitar to its extremes as a physical material, Pérez invites listeners to participate in a ritualistic questioning of the sounds expected of the electric guitar, and in turn what is expected of listeners. The music on this album is achieved almost entirely without the use of effects pedals; instead, Pérez opts for using extended/prepared guitar technique, emulating the sounds of a howling wind, or the dripping of water in a rainforest. This record captures a practice of denaturing the electric guitar beyond its ascribed historical identity, as a means of envisioning a language that was never conquered and had instead been left to govern itself.
